Understanding Eligibility for Honorable & Compassion Living Housing 

Determining eligibility is the first step toward securing safe and independent housing for senior veterans. Below is a clear overview of the requirements for our shared, well-managed homes for male veterans age 62 and older.

Honorable & Compassion Living Housing provides stable, independent living-not assisted living or supportive care. Because our homes include shared common areas, residency is limited to male seniors to support privacy, safety, and comfort for all residents.

Basic Requirements 

To qualify for housing with Honorable & Compassion Living Housing, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • U.S. Military Veteran (any branch) 
  • Male veterans age 62 and older 
  • Honorable or General (Under Honorable Conditions)discharge 
  • Able to live independently (manage personal care, mobility, and daily needs without assistance)
  • Respectful, cooperative behavior suitable for a shared senior home 
  • Stable income or housing support, such as HUD-VASH, SSFV, VA pension, Social Security, or private pay 
  • Homeless or at risk of homelessness prioritized 
  • Able to live in a shared home environment with common areas and house guidelines 
  • No need for assisted living, medical supervision, or in-home caregiving services 

The Ideal Resident 

The ideal resident for Honorable and Compassion Living is a male veteran age 62 or older who:

  • Values a peaceful, respectful, and senior-friendly home environment 
  • Is considerate of shared spaces and the comfort of fellow residents 
  • Enjoys living in a cooperative, community-oriented household 
  • Can manage personal care, medications, and daily routines independently 
  • Follows simple house guidelines and communicates respectfully 
  • Seeks a stable, calm, and well-maintained living environment 

Resident Expectations 

Residents who join our shared home agree to:

  • Treat fellow residents with respect, patience, and courtesy 
  • Keep personal and shared spaces clean and orderly 
  • Maintain appropriate noise levels, especially during quiet hours 
  • Follow simple house guidelines that support safety and harmony 
  • Communicate any concerns calmly and respectfully 
  • Manage their own medications, appointments, and personal care 
  • Refrain from disruptive behavior, aggression, or substance use

When a Veteran May Not Be Eligible 

A Veteran may not be a good fit for our independent shared home if they:

  • Require daily assistance with personal care, bathing, dressing, or mobility 
  • Need medical supervision, in-home caregiving, or assisted-living services 
  • Cannot manage medications, appointments, or daily routines independently 
  • Exhibit behavior that is unsafe, disruptive, or incompatible with shared living 
  • Are unable to keep personal or shared areas clean and sanitary 
  • Have special needs that require trained staff or clinical support 
  • Have active substance use, aggression, or behavioral issues that affect safety
